Experience

Military

I am a firm believer in public service, and the military is one of the most pure ways you can serve your country and community.  In 2008, I attended boot camp for the US Coast Guard Reserve. I chose the Coast Guard because of the different missions I could be involved with; the Coast Guard is involved with customs, law enforcement, military, search and rescue, and environmental protection. In 2009, I went to Virginia to attend advanced training in port security, upon graduation I was advanced to a Petty Officer 3rd Class. In 2010, I was lateraled over to the new Maritime Enforcement specialty.

I am not the first in my family to serve. My father served as a reservist in the US Army Reserve during Operation Desert Storm, when he left the service he was a Staff Sergeant. Both of my grandfathers served our nation respectably. My Grandfather on my father’s side was a Sergeant in the Marines during Korea. My Grandpa Kush advanced to 1st Lieutenant during World War II. He served in several battles including D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge, and the Battle of the Rhine. He received several medals including the Bronze Star.

Municipal Experience

I have served in a few capacities in municipal government. I am appointed to the Community Service Board (CSB), which makes recommendations to the City Commission involving park and recreation projects. Responsibilities include city fees, awarding contracts for Parks and Recreation, city ordinances, park development, and much more. Recently, we have been involved in developing the city master plan for Parks and Recreation, which is mandated to be reviewed every 5 years under state law. Additionally, I have recently been appointed to the Rotary Park Steering Committee. The Committee was put in place to help with public input into a major renovation process taking place in Rotary Park in Sault Ste. Marie.

Political Activism

In 2008, I was the Republican candidate for State Representative, where I fought for smaller government and lower taxes. I am running now with the same mission. I have served in several posts inside the Republican Party including Chippewa County Republican Secretary, 1st District Republican Executive Committee Member, and I’m an elected Precinct Delegate. As a student at LSSU, I also serve as the College Republican President and the Michigan College Republican Co-Chairman. However, just because I’m active in the Republican Party doesn’t mean I will vote straight ticket Republican. When I go to Lansing, I will do what I feel is right for us in the 107th. I am a member of the tea party movement as well; I spoke at the tea party held in Curtis, and have been a member of the Northern Michigan Liberty Alliance since it’s early days. I am also a member of the NRA and Right to Life.

Volunteer

I believe the best solution to many of our problems is not government, it is giving. I donate over a hundred hours a year to the community. I serve as the coach for both the High School and Middle School chess clubs. Over the past year, I have also helped out at 2 of the flu clinics and devoted smaller amounts of time to several other charities. I am interested in using my campaign to assist a charity near you. If you have a fundraiser you need help recruiting for, please contact my campaign today!
