Alex Strobehn Biography
When I was little, my parents had almost nothing. We lived paycheck to paycheck. Then my father caught a break and he was offered a job as a salesman for a small business located at the time in Ypsilanti. He worked hard and when the time came for the owner to retire, he offered my father a chance to buy the company. Not only has my father owned the business for several years now, but it has grown under his leadership. Unfortunately, thanks to policies and taxes in place here in Michigan, he was unable to grow it as fast as he could have in other states. So far, he has chosen to stay and fight for survival, and that is what it is. The establishment in Lansing has placed large quantities of red tape that kill jobs and destroy opportunity.
I came to live in Sault Ste. Marie when I was 18. I was tired of the big communities and I wanted to try something different, so I enrolled with Lake Superior State University. I fell in love with the sense of community. Many people throughout the community have welcomed me with open arms as their new neighbor. In 2007, I met a girl at a hockey game and a few years later she became my wife. This past August, my son Riley James was born at War Memorial Hospital. Unfortunately, I am too well aware of the plight of the unemployed here in Northern Michigan. In the past, I needed several job interviews with different companies and it took months to find suitable employment. The situation is ever worse now than it was the last time I was in the job market. I know the struggles and I have fought for what I have, just like I will fight to help you in Lansing.
