Alex Strobehn
History
Family
Alex Strobehn cares about the family values which we hold dear in Northern Michigan. He was married at the Free Methodist Church in Sault Ste. Marie. And in August of 2009, Alex became a father when his son was born at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie.
Military Service
Alex enlisted in the Coast Guard Reserve in 2008. There he was reinforced with the Coast Guards core values of honor, respect and devotion to duty. He attended nine weeks of boot camp in the summer of 2008. He went to advanced training the next summer, receiving training as a port security specialist. Upon graduation, Alex became a petty officer third-class. In January 2010. Alex became a maritime enforcement specialist.
Community Involvement
In 2008, Alex was appointed by the City of Sault Ste. Marie to the Community Service Board, which is responsible for making recommendations for the governance of parks. Recently, the board was responsible for approving the city’s master plan. Alex has also served as the volunteer chess coach at the Middle School and High School in Sault Ste. Marie. Alex is currently a member of the Northern Michigan Liberty Alliance, Right to Life, National Rifle Association and the Chippewa County Historical Society.
Political Experience
Alex is a long-time conservative, who was the 2008 Republican Party nominee against Democratic Representative Gary McDowell. He has held several leadership positions with the Republican Party, including as secretary of the Chippewa County Republican Party, co-chairman of the Michigan College Republicans, and a member of the executive committee in all four counties of the 107th House District. Alex has also been an active member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tea Party since its formation.
